It has gained its fame thanks to its exceptionally fine cut execution resembling the lace, which has also given it the common name – lace cut. In the world it has become the synonym for the general term “Bohemian glass” or “Czech Crystal”. Even though this synonym is not exact, for Bohemian glass has many other forms, it indicates the popularity, which cut lead crystal in the traditional concept still enjoys. The most expressive among the richly cut decors is the one called PK 500.

Quality lead crystal and perfect hand cut – these are attributes that characterize this sparkling beauty created for the first time in the 1930ties. Conception of the richly cut lead Bohemian crystal has remained unequalled and the decors have kept their attractiveness to the present.

Bohemian crystal - history

The oldest glass findings (bracelets, beads) in Czech countries were probably imported from Celtic regions, at approximately the 3rd century B.C. It is possible that some beads from the Great-Moravia time period were of local origin.

Glass production in Bohemia already has a tradition for number of centuries, because the region offered from ancient times everything that primitive glass production needed. There was especially enough silica and wood available for heating the glass-ovens and refining the ash, in the form of potash, which was added to the glass batch. The establishment of Bohemian crystal refining on a new basis dates from 1861 when Josef Schreiber, a businessman from Vienna, with Viennese glass, founded the first great grinding plant in Svetla nad Sazavou. This factory was supplied with glass from neighboring glassworks, and within a period of ten years it employed about 80 personnel.

The production program today includes hundreds of sorts of large pieces and stemware produced by pressing and blowing technologies, either cut or uncut. Much care is devoted to traditional manual production and to classical hand-cutting.
